Act 4, Question 1

What message do you think Miller was trying to give about the witch trials by his portrayal of Salem in Act 4? Explain.

  1. He was showing how corrupt they were by making it obvious that the judges knew he was not a wizard. The judges just didn't want to look stupid by letting them off the hook.

  2. that god is supreame in and out of the court and that if u are accused of wwitchery then u were tried without mercy unless u confess.

  3. i think that salem is a town full of falsly accused witches, compulsive liars, child predators, terrible judges, crazy law enforcers,and extremely nice people.

  6. i think the court and the judges weren't very good. the reason why is because if somebody said that so and so was a witch they would put them in jail.

  7. The message that i think Miller was trying to give about the witch trials by his portrayal of Salem in Act 4 is that back then the judges would believe anybody in, that would say so and so is a witch, order to make the people happy.

  8. I agree with leslie, he wanted to please people so he would have said his own mother was a witch.
